Oral communication is obviously a very important skill to master. Either to teach, to motivate or to convince, this “art” remains a powerful tool that always fascinated me. I really like the adrenaline before going on stage and, most importantly, the knowledge transfer to an audience who came to learn something new or to discuss a burning topic.
In the last 6 years, I have participated to many seminars and meetings on a wide range of environmental issues. Once, I was attending a conference in Stockholm related to my business area and the speaker was astonishing. I really felt that this experience changed my views on speeches and how to deliver them in a very dynamic way.
In one word, it all comes down to the speaker’s goal who needs to explain, to convince, but also to entertain to make sure that he catches the audience’s attention. At the end, your listeners should feel that they have learnt something and that they have had a good time. This day, at Sheraton Stockholm Hotel, it is exactly what happened and it gave me the idea to write this post and share my experience with you. The best techniques can be easy to explain when it is common sense but… implementing them is another challenge! We will talk about it in more details soon in another article.
